It’s probably not just me, but has anyone else felt like there are just too many bonkers things happening in the world right now?

We are living in a time of disruption, and I don’t know about you, but when I’m concerned, I can easily be pulled into screens.

And that is what really hits home for me when I notice I have been sucked into screen time unconsciously.

That time and focus could have been well spent elsewhere.

So this is where I am starting this month.

No judgement.

No perfect plan.

Just with the honest recognition that my focus is precious, and I want to be more conscious about where I spend it.

Join me next week for part two of this four-part series on focus, screen time, uncertainty, perspective and coming back to what is real.

Thanks for reading,

Marisa at Your Mind Redesigned

Sometimes monitoring what is happening. Sometimes escaping what is happening. Either way, screen time seems to be the winner, and my sense of wellbeing pays the price.

Isn’t it funny that we often know the very things we need to avoid, yet still struggle to change them?

I know I do.

The irony of someone who works in the field of helping people make meaningful life changes also struggling to manage unhelpful habits isn’t lost on me. I don’t judge myself for it. I’m simply human, doing the best I can with the mind, body and nervous system I have.

But I do need to take stock.

I need to consciously decide where I want to spend my focus.

Focus is a finite resource

Focus, in my mind, is like time.

You have a certain amount of it per day.

It gets whittled away by trivial things if you aren’t careful. It can disappear into headlines, notifications, comment sections, emails, reels, rabbit holes and “just checking something quickly” while others are… waiting.

But focus can be spent beautifully.

It feels good to spend it on your passions, your health, your home, your dreams and your favourite people.

It means the world to us when someone we love gives us their time and focus. Not just their physical presence, but their real attention. Their eyes. Their ears. Their focus. Their care.
